Cozy Up With a Winter Woodland-Themed Home

By Enjoius Staff

If you’re looking to update your holiday decor, ditch the red, green and tinsel and consider winter in nature as your inspiration. A winter woodland look is easy to embrace as it can evoke romance, mystery, whimsy or fancy - all rather magical during the holidays. With a few key elements, you can transform your home decor into something elegant, rustic or all of the above. Just choose a mood that most reflects your style and taste.

  • Start with a few woodsy basics. When you go on a winter walk this year, forage for some pinecones, fallen twigs and pine branches that you can use to give your home some natural elements. If you’re not anywhere near a forest, you can always get pieces like pinecones or tree slices shipped directly to you. Tree slices make excellent centerpiece bases or even placemats for a dinner party. Adorn your home with artificial branches that light up, birch bark candles or snowberries as an alternative to holly berries.
  • Have fun with whimsical elements. You can create a fairytale setting in your winter woodland that’s especially fun for the kids. Little woodland creatures like elk, foxes, owls and other critters are sweet accents around the home. If it borders on too cute in an adult-only household, keep them to a minimum as tree ornaments or as Christmas stocking decor. Hang soft white fairy lights or place white and cream candles around the room to set the mood during the long evenings. If you have a fireplace, it’s time to use it!
  • Choose a focal point. You can adorn your room as simply or extravagantly as your imagination allows. Focusing your budget and vision on one part of the room, say the mantelpiece, Christmas tree or the dining table can really up the wow factor. When decorating the rest of the room or other parts of the house, think of it as creating a background for your showpiece.
  • Keep it contemporary. A complete winter woodland transformation of one’s home may not be for everyone! Contrast wintry elements by featuring on-trend gold or metallic objects for a modern variation on the theme. Simple, white ceramic dishes on the Christmas table give it a hygge look which is perfect for the winter. Ultra soft blankets in gray hues or simple geometric patterns will make make snuggling up by the fire extra cozy and luxurious.

Embrace the cold weather with your lovely winter woodland look - it’s sure to chase the winter blues away!
