Ever since Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation coined the term Galentine’s Day in 2010, the day before Valentine’s Day has become an unofficial holiday to fete our female friendships. Keep scrolling for essential tips on hosting your own fabulous party for “ladies to celebrate ladies”!
Gather your girlfriends. Galentine’s Day is a day to pay tribute to all the important female figures in your life - besties, female mentors, sisters and moms. Create your guest list and send out invitations (Etsy $10) that capture the theme of your Galentine’s Day celebration.
Get the party started with champagne and fizzy drinks. It’s not a real celebration without champers! When guests arrive, serve fizzy drinks like bellinis or mimosas served in fun champagne flutes. Offer something boozier like a gin fizz - a shaken cocktail of gin, lemon juice, sugar, egg white and soda water - once you start serving the food.
Brunch for dinner. Host breakfast or brunch for dinner. Create a waffle bar: pre-make waffles or have your guests make their own on a waffle maker (Bed Bath & Beyond $26.99) with prepared batter. Make sure you have an enviable spread of toppings like whipped cream, Nutella, peanut butter, berries, powdered sugar, maple syrup, bacon and the pièce de résistance: fried chicken! Other guilty pleasures are encouraged and salad is definitely not required - this is Galentine’s Day, not a spa day!
Pay tribute to your female relationships. Show gratitude for your female relationships - make a toast to the women in your life and say a few appreciative words. This is the day to honor your gal pals, but if speechmaking is not your forte, write each of your guests a heartfelt note. Take a moment to reflect on your individual relationships with these lovely ladies and let each of them know how much she means to you.
Have fun and get crafty. Don’t let Galentine’s Day get too heavy though - keep it cheerful and full of laughter. Maybe watch Episode 16 of Parks and Recreation (Target $24.99), followed by a crafting session. Be on trend by making sweet floral crowns. All you’ll need are some fresh or faux flowers and greenery, floral wire, floral tape and wire cutters. Shape a circular crown with the wire, secure it with floral tape and add your flowers by securing with more floral tape. Wear them with pride - on Galentine’s Day, you’re all queens for the day.
While celebrating with your ladies, don’t forget to raise a glass to Leslie Knope for her brilliant idea!
